Enugu abduction: Peter Obi calls for urgent action to tackle insecurity

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the abduction of worshippers in Enugu as a disturbing development, warning that insecurity has become a national crisis requiring urgent action.

Obi voiced his concerns in a post shared on his official X handle, @PeterObi, expressing alarm over the growing threat facing citizens across the country.

He stressed that Nigerians should be able to worship, work, study, and live in their homes without fear of attack or abduction.

The former governor also noted that insecurity is no longer restricted to specific regions, citing recent incidents in Borno, Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, and Katsina as evidence of a widespread national challenge.

He called on Nigerians to set aside political, ethnic, and religious differences to unite against insecurity.

He also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted worshippers and apprehend those responsible.

He further emphasized the need for the government to make the protection of human life its highest priority and ensure that citizens do not accept violent attacks and kidnappings as part of daily life.

“The inviolability of human life must remain the highest priority for any government. We cannot accept these tragedies as a new normal. Every Nigerian life is invaluable, and every possible measure must be taken to protect it,” Obi said.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its security challenges through collective effort, decisive leadership, and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives and rights of all citizens.
