Ekiti Police debunk AI-generated video alleging attacks on Universities

The Ekiti State Police Command has vehemently debunked a viral video alleging impending banditry attacks on higher institutions in the state, describing the footage as a fabricated product of Artificial Intelligence (AI) intended to sow panic among residents.

The video, which sparked anxiety across the state, specifically claimed that Ekiti State University (EKSU) and the Bamidele Olumiluwa University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) were targeted for attacks.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the Command confirmed that a comprehensive investigation revealed no credible threat exists against any part of the state.

Despite dismissing the rumors, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo, has ordered the proactive deployment of additional security personnel to strategic flashpoints.

These reinforcements have been mobilized to border towns, educational institutions, public infrastructure, religious centres, and identified black spots to ensure the safety of lives and property.

CP Eribo appealed to residents to remain calm, disregard the misinformation, and continue their lawful daily activities without fear.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining maximum security and urged the public to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious movements to the nearest police station or via the emergency hotlines: 08062335577 and 09064050086.
