The Ekiti State Police Command have arrested twelve persons for alleged vandalisation and theft of electrical equipment.

According to a press release issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, on Wednesday, the suspects were apprehended various locations across the state.

The arrests followed a coordinated manhunt by the Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with Non-State Actors, after multiple reports of cable vandalism and theft in the area.

The statement explained that the police launched a significant operation to arrest, prosecute, and dismantle the criminal activities of the suspects. The effort culminated in a successful raid on February 21, 2025, around 1:30 p.m.

The operatives swooped on multiple criminal hideouts within and outside Ado-Ekiti, leading to the capture of the suspects: Kabiru Abubakar (20), Kamarudeen Adekunle (38), Sukurana Amodu (26), Atiku Abubakar (24), Ibrahim Milasi (26), Jafaru Iliasu (24), Nasiru Yahuza (25), Muhammadu Aminu (25), Isah Zaiyanu (32), Abubakar Rabiu (21), Ibrahim Rasaq (27), and Yusuf Usman (25).

Upon interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the theft and vandalization of various electrical items, including rolls of armor cables, recline cables, aluminum conductors, a transformer feeder pillar, rolls of binding wire, electrical cables, and generator parts.

In the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, warned criminal elements in the state to repent, stressing that it would no longer be business as usual.

He also announced that the arrested suspects would soon be charged to court.

The police are continuing their efforts to curb criminal activities in Ekiti, with a focus on addressing the growing problem of cable theft and vandalism in the region.
