Ekiti philanthropist, others call for arrest of exposed bisexual man

A philanthropist and senior public official in Ekiti State, Hon. Daramola Bimbo, has expressed regret over the sponsorship of a beneficiary under a workers’ development programme after allegations emerged concerning the individual’s conduct, urging calm and due process amid rising community tensions.

Hon. Daramola, a serving member of the Local Government Service Commission Management (LGSC) and a frontline participant in the Ekiti State Government Training Board (EKSGTB), said the sponsorship was part of a poverty alleviation and workforce upgrade initiative designed to reward diligence and enhance human capital.

The programme, he noted, had supported a beneficiary identified as Owoseni Babajide Claudius to pursue postgraduate studies in Canada.

Tensions reportedly escalated in Ikigbinshin community, Ado-Ekiti, on September 15, 2023, following the circulation of incriminating photographs of Owoseni Babajide and his bisexual partner Tola Aderokaye that led to protests and property damage linked to the beneficiary. Community unrest prompted security concerns and calls for intervention.

In a statement, Hon. Daramola condemned the alleged conduct attributed to the beneficiary, stressing that the programme was founded on values of integrity and good conduct.

He announced the withdrawal of any further support previously extended to the individual and called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly.

While acknowledging the sensitivity of the situation and prevailing societal norms, the philanthropist appealed to residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

He urged community leaders and youths to allow the Nigeria Police to carry out their duties, emphasizing that justice must follow lawful procedures.

Security sources confirmed that authorities are reviewing the situation to restore calm and ensure public safety. Community leaders have also appealed for restraint as investigations continue.

Hon. Daramola reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment and worker development in Ekiti State, stating that the initiative would continue with strengthened safeguards to uphold ethical standards and protect beneficiaries and communities alike.
