The Ministry of Interior, has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
This declaration marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth for millions of Muslims across the country.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed these greetings on behalf of the government, offering heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful for successfully completing the month-long fast.
Beyond the announcement of the work-free days, the Minister emphasized the importance of carrying forward the spiritual lessons learned during Ramadan.
He urged citizens to embody the virtues of love, generosity, peace, and sacrifice in their daily lives, noting that these values are essential for the nation’s social fabric.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further called upon all Nigerians, regardless of faith, to utilize this festive period as a time of prayer for the continued unity and economic prosperity of the federation.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, also highlighted a call for social responsibility and national harmony.
While wishing the public a joyful celebration, the government encouraged acts of kindness toward the less privileged and reminded citizens to celebrate with moderation and respect for public order.
