Eid-el-Fitr: IGP beefs up security nationwide, felicitates with Muslims

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a massive, nationwide deployment of tactical assets and personnel to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration across Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP extended his warmest congratulations to the Muslim Ummah following the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Beyond the festivities, however, the police chief signaled a zero-tolerance approach to insecurity during the holiday period.

To preempt potential threats, IGP Disu has directed all State Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to activate robust security protocols.

This directive includes the immediate mobilization of the Special Intervention Squad alongside conventional officers to secure Eid prayer grounds and critical national infrastructure.

The Police high command is placing a particular emphasis on high-visibility policing.

Commuters and holidaymakers can expect an increased security presence at motor parks, recreational centers, and along major highways.

These measures are supported by intensified intelligence-led operations, including coordinated patrols and strategic stop-and-search duties designed to deter criminal elements.

While assuring the public of the Force’s readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies, the IGP stressed that security is a collective responsibility. He urged citizens to remain observant and report any suspicious movements to local stations.
