EFCC arraigns man over alleged N186m breach of trust in Maiduguri

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, on Tuesday arraigned Muhammad Korimi Abdullahi before the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, over an alleged N186 million criminal breach of trust.

Abdullahi was arraigned before Justice Maina Lawan on a six-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust contrary to Section 299 of the Borno State Penal Code Law and other Matters Connected therewith Law, 2023.

The EFCC alleged that the defendant diverted N186 million entrusted to him for safekeeping for his personal use.

One of the counts stated that Abdullahi, on February 14, 2024, in Maiduguri, dishonestly converted N30 million transferred electronically into his bank account after the money had been entrusted to him.

The alleged offence is punishable under Section 300 of the same law.

Abdullahi pleaded not guilty to all six counts when they were read to him.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel, N.T. Iko, urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility and fix a date for trial.

Justice Lawan subsequently adjourned the matter until September 7, 2026, for trial and ordered that Abdullahi be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Centre.
