E1 Championship: Lagos announces temporary closure of Jetties

By Seun Ibiyemi

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), has announced the partial closure of all private and commercial jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit, LASWA explained that the temporary restriction is to facilitate the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, with the Lagos series scheduled to take place along the creek during this period.

The closure schedule is phased: on Thursday, October 2, 2025, there will be a partial closure from Falomo bridge to the Oriental hotel between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. On Friday, October 3, a total closure will be enforced from Oriental Hotel to Mekwen bridge during the same time frame. For the weekend, Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, there will be a total closure from Falomo bridge to Oriental Hotel daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

LASWA confirmed that the waterways restriction is a vital safety and security measure necessary to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and successfully project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events. Normal operations at the affected ferry routes will resume on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The agency urged all waterway users to cooperate by utilizing alternative ferry routes and making travel arrangements ahead of time.
