Democracy Day: ACCI links peace, security to investment, economic growth

The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu, has said that peace, security and democratic governance remain critical to economic growth and investment attraction in Nigeria.
Obegolu said this in a Democracy Day message on Friday in Abuja, congratulating Nigerians on the 33rd anniversary of the country’s democratic journey.
“The ACCI has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating this milestone in the country’s democratic journey.
“The chamber is calling for effective strategies to tackle insecurity and strengthen national stability to boost investment and economic development,” he said.
He described Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic progress and honour the sacrifices of national heroes whose courage and commitment laid the foundation for the freedoms Nigerians enjoy today.
Obegolu urged citizens to continue promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that mutual respect was essential for development.
“Peace and security are critical to economic growth. A peaceful and stable nation naturally attracts investors.
“Increased investments stimulate business activities across various sectors,” he said.
According to him, thriving businesses create employment opportunities and contribute significantly to national economic growth.
He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address insurgency and other security challenges, noting that lasting solutions were needed to promote stability and unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.
Obegolu expressed optimism that sustained peace, good governance and collective commitment would ensure continued growth and prosperity for all Nigerians.
