Delta govt. installs helium-free MRI scanner at Asaba Specialist Hospital

The Delta government has recorded a major milestone in healthcare delivery with the installation of Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr Peace Ighosewe, said on Saturday in Asaba that the hospital is the first health facility in Nigeria to deploy the cutting-edge technology, describing it as a major boost to healthcare delivery in the state.
The CMD commended Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori for his investments in the health sector, noting that it reflected the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.
She said: “The hospital marked the commencement of the services by offering free MRI scans to patients for two days. More than 10 patients benefitted from the exercise.”
While noting that the installation of the equipment would significantly improve access to specialised medical imaging, Ighosewe said it would reduce the burden of travelling outside the state for MRI investigations and facilitate more accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
She noted that the Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI system represented a significant advancement in medical imaging technology and is expected to strengthen diagnostic capabilities at the hospital.
The CMD reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing accessible, modern and patient-centred healthcare services.
She said that the initiative aligned with Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, aimed at improving critical sectors, including healthcare.
She reiterated the hospital`s commitment to continue leveraging modern technology and skilled personnel to enhance healthcare and deliver quality medical services to the people of the state.
