Veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring his commitment to building a formidable opposition to halt what he described as creeping one-party dominance in Nigeria.
Momodu, a former presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation International, announced his membership on Thursday in Benin City, ending months of speculation following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing supporters and party leaders, Momodu dismissed rumours linking his move to ambitions for elective office in Edo State.
He stated categorically that he has no interest in contesting for the governorship or a senatorial seat.
“People have asked me what I want whether I want to be governor or senator. The answer is no. My interest is to promote the best interests of our people,” he said.
Momodu described his induction into the ADC as a significant milestone in his political journey, aimed at rescuing Nigeria’s democracy.
“My mission is to work with like-minded citizens to rescue, recover, and reset Nigeria. Our democracy must not be reduced to a one-party state or a one-parliament system,” he stated.
Reflecting on his personal history, Momodu spoke emotionally about reconnecting with his ancestral roots in Edo State after decades abroad.
“It took me over 50 years of hard work and careful planning to establish myself abroad. But today, I am standing firmly before you, reintegrating myself into the political process of my state,” he added.
Momodu resigned from the PDP in July 2025, accusing the party of being hijacked by anti-democratic interests.
