Dangote refinery exports 44,000bpd of PMS

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has achieved a historic milestone, exporting 44,000 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline in March 2026.

This performance officially positions Nigeria as a net exporter of petrol for the first time, recording a surplus of approximately 3,000 bPd for the month.

The refinery’s rising output is rapidly reshaping international trade, with Nigeria’s gasoline imports plummeting to a record low of 41,000 b/d in March.

In a significant expansion of its global footprint, the 650,000 b/d-capacity facility also delivered its first East African cargo, a 317,000-barrel shipment to Mozambique as regional buyers diversify supply sources away from the Middle East.

Data from market intelligence firm Kpler shows that crude oil supply to the plant climbed to 565,000 bpd in March, signaling strong processing rates and rising product yields.

President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote attributed this progress to the federal government’s energy sector reforms, which have fostered the environment necessary for large-scale domestic refining.

Analysts note that this transition from a major importer to a competitive exporter is poised to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, enhance national energy security, and increase competition in global fuel markets.
