Dangote Refinery debunks importation allegations, confirms 45m litre output

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed claims that it imports refined products, asserting that all fuels distributed from its Lekki facility are refined locally.

The refinery's CEO, David Bird, clarified that materials often mistaken for imports are actually intermediate feedstocks used to enhance refinery performance, a standard practice in global hubs like Singapore and the US.

“We do not import refined fuel. Everything sold as petrol, diesel, or aviation fuel is refined here to Euro-V standards,” Bird stated.

He accused certain oil marketers and regulators of undermining local refining by importing cheaper, substandard fuels instead of patronizing domestic products.

Bird revealed that the refinery currently supplies approximately 45 million litres of petrol daily to the Nigerian market.

He emphasized that the facility has significantly lowered the sulphur and metal content in Nigerian fuel, ensuring the country is no longer a dumping ground for inferior products.
