Crude oil production rises 5.5% – NUPRC

Nigeria’s upstream oil sector recorded a 5.5 per cent year-on-year increase in production in August 2025, averaging 1.63 million barrels per day (bopd) of crude oil and condensates, up from 1.58 million bopd in the same period last year.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) disclosed this in its Crude Oil and Condensate Production Report for August 2025.

According to the breakdown, crude oil output rose to 1.43 million bopd, representing a 5.47 per cent increase from 1.36 million bopd in August 2024. However, condensate production dipped to 197,229 bopd, compared to 220,435 bopd a year earlier.

NUPRC noted that Nigeria achieved 96 per cent of its OPEC production quota of 1.5 million bopd during the review month, underscoring the country’s capacity to meet output commitments.

On a month-to-month basis, combined crude and condensate output fell by 4.7 per cent from the 1.71 million bopd recorded in July. Crude oil alone declined by 4.8 per cent, which the commission attributed to a one-day unscheduled maintenance at an oil facility.

Production in August fluctuated between a low of 1.59 million bopd and a peak of 1.85 million bopd.

In terms of terminal performance, Forcados led with 8.99 million barrels, including 8.08 million barrels of crude and 915,200 barrels of condensates. Bonny Terminal followed with 6.26 million barrels, comprising 5.8 million barrels of crude and 418,270 barrels of condensates.

Qua Iboe Terminal posted 4.99 million barrels, with crude accounting for 4.94 million barrels, while Escravos contributed 4.18 million barrels, including 4.08 million barrels of crude and 107,000 barrels of condensates.

The figures reflect steady recovery and operational improvements in Nigeria’s oil sector, despite challenges posed by declining condensate output and occasional facility disruptions.
