The Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, in Kuje Correctional Centre.
Both men, along with 11 others, were arrested on Monday, October 20, 2025, during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja and were arraigned before the court on Tuesday.
The suspects face charges of breach of public peace following a protest that disrupted major activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving workers and motorists stranded.
According to police reports, the protesters violated a subsisting court order restricting demonstrations in certain areas of Abuja, including the Presidential Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court had on Friday, October 17, granted an ex-parte motion filed by police counsel Wisdom Madaki on behalf of the Federal Government, restraining activist Omoyele Sowore and others from staging protests near sensitive government zones pending the hearing of a motion on notice.
Despite the order, the protesters converged on key routes in Abuja on Monday, prompting security operatives to intervene and disperse the crowd with teargas and live rounds fired into the air.
The arrested suspects were later charged and remanded pending further hearing.
