A Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident that claimed the lives of two friends of heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026.

Kayode, who is 46 years old, was arraigned before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun on January 2 on a four-count charge.

The charges include dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and damage to property, as well as driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The offences are said to be contrary to relevant sections of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

During the proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, informed the court that the prosecution had four witnesses, but only three were present in court.

He consequently applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution duplicate the case file and forward it to the Office of the Attorney General of the state through the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, citing the interest of justice.

The application was opposed by the defence counsel, Abiodun Olalekan, who told the court that the defence was ready to proceed with the trial.

However, in her ruling, Magistrate Somefun granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, for further hearing.
