Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and CNL, has reiterated its commitment to educational advancement in Nigeria during the award ceremony of the 2025 Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition.

Held at the PTI Conference Centre in Effurun, Delta State, the event attracted key stakeholders, including representatives from the Delta State Ministry of Education, the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and dignitaries from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) and the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), alongside teachers, students, and the media.

In his address, the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Jim Swartz, highlighted the enduring partnership between the NNPCL/CNL Joint Venture, the Chemical Society of Nigeria, and the Delta State Government.

He emphasized the competition’s pivotal role in fostering academic excellence and stimulating interest in the sciences.

Represented at the ceremony, Swartz stated, “We are delighted to witness the sustained commitment to the study of chemistry, as demonstrated by the outstanding performance of students in this year’s competition. Chevron, through the NNPCL/CNL JV, remains proud to be the sole sponsor of the Awokoya Memorial Chemistry Competition in Delta State since 1992. Our investment in education is motivated by the remarkable achievements of past awardees, many of whom have excelled in science-related disciplines both locally and internationally.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding students. Omazuwa Enousakhala Samuel of St. Augustine College, Oghara, clinched the coveted first prize, distinguishing himself among participants drawn from across the state.

He received a plaque, a certificate, and other benefits in recognition of his performance.

Stakeholders at the event delivered goodwill messages commending Chevron’s unwavering support for the education sector.

The company noted that its commitment aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Nigerian National Policy on Education.

Through investments in infrastructure, manpower development, and scholarships, the NNPCL/CNL Joint Venture continues to foster self-worth and societal growth, driving sustainable development across the region.
