CBN Governor highlights economic gains, as S&P Global conducts ratings review

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso has recently hosted a delegation from Standard and Poor’s (S&P) Global Ratings as part of the periodic assessment of Nigeria’s creditworthiness.

The visiting team, led by Mr. Roberto Sifon-Arevalo, Global Head of Sovereign Ratings, engaged in a series of technical discussions aimed at evaluating the nation’s current fiscal and monetary trajectory.

This visit serves as a cornerstone of S&P’s review process, which influences international investor confidence and the cost of sovereign borrowing.

During the consultative session, Governor Cardoso presented a robust case for Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.

He underscored the country’s improved resilience and the emerging signs of macroeconomic stability following a period of intensive structural adjustments.

The Governor further briefed the S&P team on the positive impact these reforms have had on foreign exchange liquidity, inflationary control, and the overall strengthening of Nigeria’s credit profile.

“The leadership of the country is committed to staying the course,” Cardoso affirmed, noting that the focus has now shifted toward consolidating these reform-driven wins into long-term, sustainable development.
