Role Summary

The Reporter will research, investigate, and report news and current affairs for Nigerian NewsDirect’s publications and other relevant platforms, ensuring accuracy, balance, timeliness, and adherence to editorial standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, research, and develop news stories relevant to assigned beats
• Conduct interviews with relevant sources and stakeholders
• Attend press briefings, events, and other newsworthy activities as assigned
• Write clear, accurate, balanced, and engaging news reports
• Verify information, documents, quotations, and claims before publication
• Develop and maintain reliable professional contacts and sources
• Meet editorial deadlines and respond to assignments from editors
• Follow journalistic ethics, fact-checking procedures, and editorial guidelines
• Pitch story ideas and contribute to editorial planning meetings

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum of Bsc. in Mass Communication, Journalism, English, or a related discipline
• Demonstrable writing, research, and interviewing abilities
• Understanding of journalistic ethics, news judgment, and verification
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work under deadlines and cover assigned beats
• A portfolio of published work must be submitted
