Role Summary
The Online Editor will oversee the editorial quality, selection, adaptation, and timely publication of content for Nigerian NewsDirect’s online audience, ensuring that digital journalism meets editorial standards while responding effectively to the needs of online readers.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, edit, and prepare content for publication on Nigerian NewsDirect’s digital platforms
- Identify and prioritise stories for online publication based on news value, relevance, and timeliness
- Write and refine headlines, introductions, captions, and other supporting copy
- Verify information and ensure that digital content meets editorial standards
- Coordinate with reporters, line editors, and digital publishing personnel
- Monitor breaking news and coordinate timely updates where necessary
- Apply SEO and digital storytelling principles without compromising accuracy or editorial integrity
- Monitor online audience engagement and use relevant insights to inform editorial decisions
- Ensure online content follows ethical, legal, and house-style requirements
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of Bsc. in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
- At least 2 years experience in journalism, digital editing, or online publishing
- Excellent writing, editing, verification, and headline-writing skills
- Familiarity with content management systems, SEO, and digital audience behaviour
- Strong news judgement and ability to work under tight deadlines
