The Chief Executives of Nigeria’s oil regulatory bodies have resigned, prompting President Bola Tinubu to request Senate confirmation of new appointees.
Farouk Ahmed stepped down as CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), while Gbenga Komolafe resigned as CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Both officials were initially appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari following the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act.
President Tinubu conveyed the nominations in separate letters to the Senate, asking for expedited confirmation of their replacements. The development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of governance and transparency in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Details of the new nominees and their expected confirmation timeline are yet to be released.
