The peaceful residents of the Nagarannam community in Borno State remain haunted by the chilling memories of a brutal assault carried out by Boko Haram terrorists.

The attack, which occurred on October 29, 2022, targeted several households, but few suffered as devastating a blow as the family of Mr. Kasali Adewale Lawal.

What began as a quiet evening was shattered when insurgents descended on the community, turning the sanctuary of their homes into a landscape of grief and unresolved trauma.

During the targeted raid on the Lawal residence, the terrorists executed the family’s patriarch, Mr. Kasali Adewale Lawal, and his first son, Kabiru Lawal.
Eyewitnesses describe a scene of targeted brutality, where the insurgents bypassed surrounding properties to focus their violence on the Lawal household.

The dual loss of the family’s primary breadwinner and his eldest child has plunged the surviving members into a state of profound shock and severe economic vulnerability, as they struggle to reconcile their loss with the harsh reality of life in a displacement-prone region.

However, the horror of that night did not conclude with the killings. As the insurgents prepared to withdraw from the community, they reportedly abducted the daughter of the family, Anjolaoluwa Elizabeth Lawal. Her current whereabouts remain unknown, adding an agonizing layer of uncertainty to the family’s mourning.

While security forces have been briefed on the abduction, the Lawal family joins thousands of others in the Northeast who are trapped in a painful limbo, waiting for news of a loved one taken into the forest by a group that has redefined the boundaries of regional terror.
