Benue deputy gov. celebrates Idoma music legend at 100

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Mr Sam Ode, has congratulated legendary Idoma folk singer, Mama Alice Igbe, on her 100th birthday.
Ode gave the felicitation in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Ikyereve, made available to newsmen on Saturday in Makurdi.
Ode described the centenarian as an exceptional custodian and promoter of Idoma culture whose artistic career helped preserve the people’s history, values and traditions.
The deputy governor said Igbe’s musical journey began at a young age and spanned decades of dedication to indigenous music and cultural preservation.
He said her mastery of the Aja ballad tradition had earned her an enduring place in the cultural heritage of Benue and Nigeria.
According to him, Igbe used music and folktales to communicate lessons on hard work, unity, love, mortality and communal responsibility.
“Mama Igbe is not merely a music legend; she is a living repository of the history, wisdom and cultural identity of the Idoma people,” Ode said.
He said her music had given generations a connection to their roots, while demonstrating the power of indigenous art to educate, inspire and unite.
Ode said Igbe’s 100th birthday provided an opportunity for Benue and Nigeria to celebrate her life of cultural service and creativity.
He urged that her contributions to the preservation and promotion of Idoma heritage be properly documented and transmitted to younger generations.
The deputy governor said the milestone was not only a celebration of longevity but also recognition of a cultural legacy that had transcended generations.
He congratulated Igbe, her family, the Idoma traditional institution and entire Idoma people on the historic milestone.
Ode prayed that God would continue to grant the centenarian strength, peace and joy, and bless her with many more years in good health.
