The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board has begun a community outreach on health education  to curb the spread of waterborne diseases in communities across the state.

The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Ruwanu Mohammed, disclosed this in an interview with the report on Friday in Bauchi.

Mohammed said that health education officers in the 20 local government areas of the state had been directed to carry out the exercise, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

He said the campaign would focus on hand washing, hygiene promotion, environmental sanitation, routine immunisation and nutrition, among other health-related issues.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at strengthening disease prevention efforts and ensuring that residents maintain safe and healthy environments.

Mohammed urged residents to adopt proper hygiene practices, including regular hand washing with soap and clean water, to prevent outbreak of waterborne diseases.

He noted that the state in 2025 had low suspected cases of such disease, adding that the community based approach was designed to reach dwellers.

Mohammed explained that the approach intended to reach larger population through interpersonal engagement.

He added that the board would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve access to health information and services, especially in rural communities.
