Bauchi Finance Commissioner receives heroic welcome after bail

Dr. Yakubu Adamu, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, was accorded a tumultuous reception on Thursday upon his return to the state, one week after securing bail from the Federal High Court regarding allegations of terrorism financing.
The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport and the streets of the Bauchi metropolis erupted in celebration as thousands of supporters, family members, and political associates gathered to welcome him.
The atmosphere was charged with fanfare, featuring drumming, dancing, and a massive procession.
Hundreds of tricycles and motorcycles, adorned with posters and branded T-shirts, escorted the commissioner from the airport, chanting prayers and slogans of solidarity.
Adamu has been facing trial since his arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on December 13, 2025.
He is accused of approving the sum of $2.3 million for individuals whom the commission alleges are linked to terrorist organizations.
Despite the gravity of the charges, the welcoming crowd expressed unwavering confidence in his innocence, describing the court’s decision to grant bail as a positive step in the judicial process.
Addressing the throngs of well-wishers later at his family residence, a visibly relieved Adamu expressed profound gratitude to the people of Bauchi State for their prayers and support throughout his detention.
He characterized the ordeal as a spiritual test, stating, “This is a trial from God and it shall pass. I thank you for your unwavering support and solidarity.”
He seized the moment to appeal for calm, urging his supporters to remain law-abiding and to respect constituted authorities.
He enjoined residents to continue supporting the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed in its efforts to fast-track development across the state.
The legal battle remains ongoing before the Federal High Court. Last week, the presiding judge admitted the commissioner to bail in the sum of N100 million.
As part of the stringent bail conditions, Adamu was ordered to submit his international passport to the court registry and is required to report to the state office of the Department of State Services (DSS) every Monday as the trial progresses.
