President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that banditry and other security challenges confronting Nigeria will be overcome in 2026 and beyond, calling on citizens to unite in the quest for lasting peace and national development.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to put aside their differences, embrace peace, and promote unity within their families, communities, and states, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved in a peaceful environment.
He made the call during a prayer and fasting service held in honour of the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, the Senate President was quoted as wishing Nigerians a prosperous and peaceful New Year, while assuring them that the coming year would usher in renewed hope and security across the country.
“I want to wish all Nigerians a very prosperous and peaceful new year. I want to assure all Nigerians that the new year will usher in renewed peace in our country,” Akpabio said.
Speaking further, Akpabio expressed optimism that the celebration of Christmas symbolised hope and redemption for the nation, noting that Nigerians would experience relief from banditry and insurgency in the new year and beyond.
He called on Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its efforts to tackle insecurity, adding that strengthened collaboration with international partners would play a key role in defeating banditry and insurgency.
The Senate President also highlighted the importance of family unity in fostering peace and progress, describing unity as the bedrock of collective success.
In her remarks, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, encouraged members of the family to support one another selflessly, overcome personal differences, and live together in love and harmony.
