Bago performs groundbreaking of 5.43km Kontagora township dual carriageway

Niger State governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has performed the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the 5.43km Kontagora township dual carriageway ( from Barrack Junction to Makera Junction along Yauri Road.)

Farmer Bago who described the project as another defining moment in his urban renewal agenda in building a New Niger and part of his fulfilment to overhaul the critical infrastructural architecture of the State.

The farmer governor explained that Kontagora occupies a strategic place in the economic and social landscape of Niger State and a major commercial and agricultural centre in Niger-North, and a gateway connecting communities, hence the need to reconstruct the road to unlocking greater economic opportunities for businesses, farmers, transporters and residents.

He said the road has over the years contributed immensely to various economic activities and has suffered significant deterioration due to increasing traffic, inadequate drainage infrastructure and ageing structures which prompted the urgent need for reconstruction to improve efficiency and economic activities along the corridor.

Farmer Bago also stressed that the project complements the ongoing 8.7-kilometre expansion works on the Kontagora Bypass, which have reached about 85% completion and the 19.4-kilometre Kontagora Western Bypass, where significant progress has been recorded, including the completion of land acquisition.

The farmer governor equally admitted that the vision of his administration is building roads that will outlive this generation, and creating infrastructure that attracts industries, creates employment, stimulates businesses and improve the livelihoods of the people.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Abubakar Usman said the project will stimulate economic growth ,improve mobility, enhance the quality of lives of the people and improve road safety while also calling on the people of Kontagora to cooperate with the contractors throughout the period of construction so as to aid the timely completion of the project.

In their separate goodwill messages, Member, Representing Kontagora/Mariga/ Wushishi/Mashegu Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Idris Garba, APC North-Central Zonal Vice Chairman, Muazu Bawa, Rijau, Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji commended the governor for extending the infrastructural development to the area, adding that the project will ease movement and improve economic activities in the area.

Also speaking, the state APC Chairman, Aminu Bobi and the Kontagora Local Government Council Chairman, Barr. Lawal Yusuf while appreciating the governor for responding to the infrastructural needs of the people, noted that the reconstruction of the road had been a long-standing dream of the people, as it has made movement difficult for motorists, traders and residents.

The lead consultant, Engineer Aliyu Abdulrauf highlighted the technical scope of the project, explaining that the 5.43km dual carriageway road reconstruction would include pedestrian, drainage systems, and other supporting infrastructure designed to ensure durability and enhance safety for road users.

The contractor of the project, Mr. Li Xiaowen disclosed that the company will render the best of services and will continue to work closely with the State government to ensure its timely completion.
