Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently declare a state of emergency on national security, following the abduction of students in Niger State.

Atiku made the appeal on Friday through a statement posted on his Facebook page, expressing deep concern over the worsening security situation in the country.

The incident involved terrorists invading St. Mary’s Secondary School, Papiri, located in Agwara Local Government Area, where over 50 students and staff were abducted.

Reacting to the attack, Atiku questioned why the federal government has not yet taken decisive measures to address the escalating violence.

“This is truly heartbreaking. Not again. How many more lives must be shattered before urgent action is taken?” he said.

Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, added:
“It is not too late for the government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
