A high-powered political delegation, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja.

The team, which included former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Cross River governor Liyel Imoke, and former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu, arrived in Ibadan to honour the monarch.

The visit took place at Oba Ladoja’s residence, where the political leaders extended their goodwill to the traditional ruler following his coronation.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, was formally installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland last Friday in a grand ceremony attended by dignitaries from across the country.

The visit by Atiku and his delegation is seen as a show of respect for the throne and recognition of Oba Ladoja’s new role as custodian of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage.

Details of their discussions were not immediately disclosed, but sources said the visit centred on paying homage and fostering stronger ties with the traditional institution.

The Olubadan’s palace has in recent days received an influx of high-profile visitors, reflecting the significance of the stool in the socio-political landscape of the South-West.

Oba Ladoja’s ascension has been widely celebrated, with many noting his blend of political experience and deep-rooted connection to Ibadan traditions.

Atiku, who has maintained strong ties with Oyo State over the years, was reported to have expressed delight at the coronation and reaffirmed his respect for the traditional institution.
