Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu over the reported distribution of 2026 model luxury SUVs, valued at over ₦150 million each, to All Progressives Congress youth leaders.

In a statement issued by his campaign’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the move as a profound insult to ordinary citizens grappling with severe hunger and soaring living costs, demanding that the Presidency provide an immediate public account of how the vehicles were financed.

The statement highlighted that the APC National Youth Leader credited the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, with donating the luxury fleet for political mobilization, prompting questions regarding the source of the funds given that the office of the First Lady holds no executive powers.

Atiku questioned whether the vehicles were procured using personal funds, private donations, or public resources, arguing that taxpayers deserve full transparency instead of lavish displays of executive excess.

Drawing comparisons to previous reports of luxury vehicles distributed to party women leaders during periods of national insecurity, the former presidential candidate accused the administration of misplaced priorities and political patronage.

He noted that the glaring display of extreme privilege highlighted by party officials traveling via private jets and members of the President’s family sporting luxury watches worth hundreds of thousands of dollars stands in sharp contrast to the economic reality faced by millions of struggling Nigerians.
