The All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) House of Assembly Screening Committee has commenced the screening of 24 aspirants vying for the 24 State Constituency seats in the Enugu State House of Assembly.
The screening exercise is being conducted by a committee led by Lucky Porki, who confirmed that only one aspirant from each constituency submitted forms before the expiration of the deadline.
He noted that although the number of aspirants is equal to the number of constituencies, the party will still follow due process in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, and APC guidelines.
“The time for the submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms has elapsed, and we have only 24 aspirants for the 24 State Constituency seats,” Porki said.
“This has made our job easier because we will deal with 24 aspirants only. We will thoroughly screen them and their records and credentials to ensure they are qualified to serve the people of Enugu State,” he added.
He further explained that a Screening Appeal Committee has already been set up to handle any complaints arising from the exercise, assuring that aggrieved aspirants will have the opportunity to seek redress.
Meanwhile, the committee commended the leadership of the party in Enugu State, including Governor Peter Mbah, for fostering strong synergy and consensus-building within the state chapter of the party.
“We give credit to the leader of APC in Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah; the State Executive Committee, the Chairman, stakeholders, and members of our great party for the democracy, synergy, and unity in the Enugu State chapter,” Porki said.
He described the level of cooperation in the state as exemplary, recommending it as a model for other state chapters of the party.
“We commend them for this exemplary display of consensus-building to ensure that peace and party loyalty reign supreme. We recommend the Enugu State formula to other states as a virtue worthy of emulation,” he added.
In his remarks, the Chairman of APC in Enugu State, Martin Chukwunweike, praised the national leadership of the party, Governor Mbah, and all screening panels for ensuring a level playing field for aspirants.
The Screening Appeal Committee is chaired by Dillon Oyowa, with Umokoro Enomioghene Samuel serving as Secretary, and Desmond Okpako Duke as member.
The committee assured that the screening process remains transparent, fair, and aligned with internal party democracy principles.
