The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has refuted allegations by Timi Frank, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming that the Federal Government is orchestrating a plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the campaign council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, the ruling party described the accusation as a grave and dangerous allegation, challenging Frank to immediately substantiate his claims with credible evidence.
The council called on security agencies to invite Frank for questioning to provide any information in his possession, emphasizing that any threat to life must be treated with utmost seriousness regardless of political divides.
Rejecting any suggestion that the Presidency or the APC campaign organization has a hand in targeting opposition figures, the council dismissed reports that security details attached to Atiku have been withdrawn as entirely false.
According to the campaign council, the former vice president’s security remains completely uncompromised, noting that he continues to enjoy dual levels of state-funded protection through the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The APC campaign also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently directed security architecture across the country to reinforce and scale up protection for all verified presidential, vice-presidential, governorship, and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Defending President Tinubu’s democratic credentials, Alake noted that the president spent 16 years championing opposition politics and galvanizing movements to foster a vibrant democratic environment in Nigeria.
The campaign council described Frank’s remarks as rabble-rousing intended to heat up the polity, pointing to a recurring trend where certain opposition figures issue dramatic open letters and involve international organizations on social media to court personal attention.
