Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presided over the signing of three landmark Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) aimed at overhauling the state’s energy infrastructure and ensuring more reliable electricity for public facilities.
The new agreements, signed on Sunday introduce a strict accountability framework where the state government will only pay for energy actually delivered and metered, effectively ending payments for undelivered power.
Under the new arrangement, Fenchurch Power has been tasked with supporting the state’s major water facilities at Adiyan and Iju, which are critical for the regional water supply.
Mainland Power will continue its operations in the Ikeja, Oshodi, and Anthony axis with a mandate for future expansion, while Viathan will maintain stable supply to key facilities on Lagos Island, integrating more deeply with the existing distribution network.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the updated agreements reflect current market realities and are designed to eliminate waste and manage state costs more effectively.
The Governor further emphasized that the state will no longer pay for unsupplied power declaring an end to waste.
The Governor further noted that the ultimate goal of these reforms is to ensure that public infrastructure operates at peak efficiency, utilizing state resources more transparently while building a sustainable energy model for the future of Lagos.
