A commercial bus driver has been confirmed dead following a fatal multiple-vehicle collision that occurred earlier on Tuesday at Cele inward Oshodi axis of Lagos State.
The incident involved a commercial mini-bus popularly known as “Korokpe” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with registration number EPE 554 YC.
According to preliminary findings at the scene the driver of the commercial bus sustained severe injuries and died on the spot due to the impact of the crash while operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who were on routine patrol and surveillance duty along the axis, promptly responded to the emergency, securing the scene and deploying traffic control measures to prevent secondary accidents and ease gridlock on the busy route.
In collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Cele-Ijesha Division, the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to his family within the area with the damaged vehicles later evacuated from the road by LASTMA officials and transferred to the police for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and to determine possible culpability.
Despite the disruption caused by the incident, authorities said normal traffic flow was swiftly restored through coordinated traffic management operations.
LASTMA management expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, maintain safe driving practices, and avoid reckless behaviour on Lagos roads reiterating its commitment to prompt emergency response and sustained efforts to reduce road crashes across the state.
