Aliko Dangote to dedicate one-third of his wealth to charity, Daughter reveals

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has structured his succession plan to commit one-third of his massive fortune to charitable causes through his foundation.
His daughter, Halima Dangote, made the revelation during an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday, noting that the billionaire has secured the formal backing of his family, including his mother and his three daughters, to dedicate 33% of his estate to humanity.
According to Halima, who serves as a trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the decision is rooted in a lifelong commitment to sustainable philanthropy and Islamic principles.
“He sort of put all the structure in place whereby we focus a lot on health, on education. He actually donated 25% of his worth to the foundation. And if you look at what we call the Sharia Accord in Islam, it means he has donated 33% of his whole inheritance to his foundation,” she stated.
Based on current valuations, one-third of the industrialist’s multi-billion dollar fortune amounts to over $11 billion, marking one of the largest philanthropic commitments ever undertaken by an individual in the Global South.
Halima emphasized that the monumental pledge is designed to ensure that the family’s philanthropic footprint endures across multiple generations.
“That is how important it is to him. Because philanthropy needs to be in existence generation after generation,” she told Bloomberg.
“We believe our business is successful because of the giving back and because of the philanthropic aspect. And that’s why that 33% is very important,” she added.
She added that the billionaire formally involved his immediate family in the legacy framework.
“He asked myself, my two sisters, and his mother to sign on that will that he is able to give that 33% to humanity,” Halima stated.
The planned allocation expands upon the extensive developmental work already championed by the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which was established in 1994 and focuses heavily on healthcare, nutrition, education, and economic empowerment across Nigeria and the wider African continent.
