Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inaugurated 17 Commissioners, charging them to uphold accountability and integrity in the execution of their duties.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi, where Governor Alia called on the newly appointed officials to project and advance the principles of state policy as enshrined in the Constitution. He urged them to remain fair and just in serving all citizens in line with the law.

According to the Governor, the Commissioners were selected based on their proven records and professional expertise, as well as their understanding of governance, transparency, and discipline. He emphasised that they are expected to work collectively towards securing victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

“The journey ahead is even longer. You understand the vision and mission of this administration, which must be fully implemented. Open your doors to the people and share what you have with them.

“Work for APC victory in 2027. Be administrators and politicians. Spend time with your people. If you ever feel there is no money to give to them, resign.

“Tell the people what we are doing and how much is being spent by government. Be the spokespersons for this administration. Take the oath of office seriously and commit to tackling insecurity in the State.

“Our government is one that cares and is committed to Benue’s growth. We have a great deal of work to do. This administration is people-centred, not individual-focused. Remain loyal, embrace transparency and accountability, and ensure your presence is felt at the grassroots. Leave a lasting legacy, give your best, and serve the State with distinction,” the Governor stated.

Of the 17 Commissioners sworn in, eight were reappointed, while nine are new entrants.

Those reappointed include Rev. Dr Frederick Lanshima Ikyaan, former Commissioner of Education and Knowledge Management; Tiza Imojime, former Commissioner for Works; Dr Yanmar Ortese, former Commissioner for Health and Human Resources; Ugwu Odoh, former Commissioner for Water Resources; Kwaghgba Amande, former Commissioner for Digital Communications; Aondowase Kunde, former Commissioner for Disaster Management; Michael Oglegba, former Commissioner for Finance; and Alumo Orpin, former Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment.

The nine new Commissioners are Dennis Ter Iyaghigba, Ogwuche Ejeh Paul, Prof. Yangien Ornguga, Peter Obo Egbodo, James Dwem, Joseph Jir, Mrs Margaret Adamu, Mrs Theresa Odachi Ikwue, and Benjamin Teryima Ashaver.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hon. Dennis Iyaghigba expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for their appointments, pledging that the Commissioners would justify the confidence placed in them by working diligently and collaboratively to deliver results.

Governor Alia also used the occasion to dispel widespread rumours suggesting a possible replacement of his Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, ahead of the 2027 elections. He firmly declared that there would be “no vacancy” for the Deputy Governor’s office in 2027, reaffirming his administration’s unity and stability.
