The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is in good health and has continued to carry out his official responsibilities, his media aide has said, dismissing circulating reports about his alleged illness as false.

Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, addressed the claims during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Thursday, describing the reports as unfounded misinformation spread online.

According to Okolugbo, Akpabio has remained active and visible in his duties, noting that his presence at recent Senate activities was proof that there were no health concerns.

“The Senate President is healthy and fully engaged in his responsibilities. His continued participation in official sessions clearly puts these rumours to rest,” he said.

He likened the situation to previous false reports about the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who was once rumoured to be incapacitated but later appeared publicly to commission projects and grant live interviews.

Okolugbo warned against the unchecked spread of unverified information on social media, stressing the need for responsible communication and possible regulation to curb misinformation.

“Social media has turned everyone into a publisher, but many ignore the legal and ethical consequences of spreading information they cannot verify,” he said.

The clarification followed an online report that claimed Akpabio had collapsed and was flown abroad for medical treatment, alleging that the development kept him away from a recent National Assembly engagement.
