Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has given his assurance that the 2025 budget will be transmitted to President Bola Tinubu for assent immediately after it is passed into law.
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, Akpabio emphasised the Senate’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and efficient budgetary process.
He commended the lawmakers for their thorough scrutiny of the budget, noting that their efforts would yield a practical and effective financial framework for the country.
“I congratulate all senators, and indeed the National Assembly as a whole, for the way in which you have examined the 2025 budget. In the end, we will have a functional document that will benefit all Nigerians,” he remarked.
Akpabio also praised the lawmakers for extending the capital provisions of the 2024 budget through to June 2025, preventing any disruption to government operations.
He confirmed that work was ongoing to ensure the 2025 budget is swiftly transmitted to the President.
“I also thank you for your foresight in extending the capital provisions of the 2024 budget to June, ensuring that government activities do not come to a halt,” he said.
“The Constitution allows the President to undertake the current expenses in the 2025 budget, even up until June. But we will undoubtedly send the budget to him as soon as possible,” he added.
