The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has reassured China that all bilateral agreements will be fully implemented.

This assurance was provided during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Thursday.

Akpabio met with Hu Chunhua, Vice-Chairperson of the 14th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The visit marked a significant opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and China.

He stated, “Let me assure your excellency that this National Assembly is fully committed to fulfilling its role in advancing bilateral agreements and promoting parliamentary diplomacy.”

He continued, “We will ensure that the legislative framework for Nigeria-China relations remains strong, productive, and future-focused.”

Akpabio recognised the longstanding partnership between Nigeria and China, noting that their relationship has matured over more than fifty years, evolving from cautious dialogue to a robust and confident alliance.

“We hold China in high regard as a reliable partner, whose journey of development continues to inspire the global community,” he remarked.

He commended China’s transformation under the leadership of the Communist Party, citing the nation’s remarkable economic growth, innovation, and success in poverty reduction.

Akpabio expressed a desire to learn from China’s experiences and adapt them to Nigeria’s own development objectives.

He also acknowledged the significant presence of Chinese companies in Nigeria, highlighting their involvement in projects such as highways, railways, and ports, which align with mutual aspirations for progress.

“These projects are not just infrastructure; they are symbols of friendship and vital pathways for progress,” he added.

He underscored the importance of these developments in further strengthening the bond between the two nations.

Akpabio also recalled President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Beijing, where leaders Xi Jinping and Tinubu agreed to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership—an initiative that goes beyond mere political symbolism.

He welcomed the prospect of deeper collaboration between the Nigerian Parliament and the CPPCC, calling for continued mutual learning and institutional cooperation to further enhance their relationship.
