Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday flagged off the training of officials for the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise in the state, describing the initiative as critical to the party’s growth, credibility and future planning.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) Hall in Akure, the governor said party members must fully appreciate both the importance and challenges of the e-registration drive.
Aiyedatiwa noted that the initiative aligns with the long-standing vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that what the President had envisioned for the party even before assuming office was now being implemented.
“This is to tell you how important this exercise is. It is very, very important for our party, not just our party, but the leader of our party, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
The governor urged APC members to show commitment by taking the registration exercise seriously, adding that mobilisation should be driven by influence and encouragement rather than coercion.
He explained that the exercise would promote equity, as all party members would be registered within the same framework and timeframe, noting that he was personally leading by example.
Emphasising the technology-driven nature of the exercise, Aiyedatiwa advised trainees to pay close attention during the training, adding that information, education, skills and ICT now drive modern economies and should also be deployed in managing party affairs.
He stressed the need for a credible membership database, saying accurate data would help the party to properly identify its members, plan effectively and strengthen internal processes.
According to him, the registration exercise will end on January 31, 2026, giving party officials about 33 to 34 days to register as many members as possible. He said the trainees were selected from different wards, local governments and districts and were expected to cascade the training to others.
The governor urged party officials to ensure that all interested members, including new entrants and those previously registered manually, were captured before the deadline, warning trainees not to disappoint party leaders.
Also speaking, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, said the electronic registration exercise was crucial to strengthening the party’s structure, internal democracy and credibility ahead of future congresses and primary elections.
Kekemeke said the exercise was designed to ensure the availability of verifiable and credible membership data nationwide, integrate new members as equal stakeholders, build a reliable database for party congresses and primaries, and enable members to become regular and financial members of the APC.
He disclosed that the exercise was being personally driven by President Tinubu, with the full support of APC governors across the country.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters and Party Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, said the e-registration exercise was aimed at building a transparent, technology-driven database that would eliminate phantom entries and enhance accountability within the party.
