Airtel rolls out data tracking tool to curb fast data consumption

Airtel Nigeria has introduced a new data tracking tool aimed at helping subscribers better understand and manage their internet usage amid growing concerns over rapid data depletion.
The telecommunications company unveiled the Airtel Data Calculator during its second interactive Customer Forum held in Abuja, where it engaged high-volume data users, 5G subscribers and other stakeholders on issues of data transparency and customer experience.
The forum also featured representatives of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen consumer confidence in Nigeria’s
telecommunications industry.
Speaking at the event, Dinesh Balsingh, the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, represented by Femi Adeniran, the company’s Director of Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, said the company remains committed to promoting transparency and building trust among subscribers.
He explained that the rise of smartphones, automated cloud backups, video streaming, and artificial intelligence (AI) apps has naturally increased the rate at which data is consumed.
To give subscribers total control, the Airtel boss announced the introduction of the “Airtel Data Calculator,” a digital tool that allows users to calculate and estimate their exact data needs based on their daily online activities.
“The purpose of the Airtel Data Calculator is to provide greater visibility, support informed decision-making, and place more information directly in the hands of customers. Because transparency should never be viewed as a compliance exercise. Transparency is good business,” he stated.
Reassuring the public on billing integrity, the CEO firmly stated that Airtel’s business growth relies entirely on customer trust and loyalty, not on cutting corners.
“Airtel has no incentive to shortchange subscribers through inaccurate billing, forced spending, or unnecessary data depletion,” Balsingh added.
Also speaking, Oladokun Oye, the Director of Customer Experience at Airtel Nigeria, welcomed the participants and stated that the forum was designed as an open platform to educate users on managing their device settings to avoid background data wastage.
Oye noted that as data becomes central to work, education, and commerce in Nigeria, the company will continue its transparent engagement, following the successful launch of the maiden edition of the forum held earlier in Lagos.
