Governor Ademola Adeleke has launched a N50,000 cash grant each for 2,000 residents of Osun State as part of his administration’s ongoing empowerment and poverty alleviation programmes aimed at cushioning the effects of the current economic hardship.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment, was held at the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU) in Osogbo, the state capital.

The initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots economic resilience and promote inclusive growth.

Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Reverend Bunmi Jenyo, Governor Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of beneficiaries and reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents across the state.

He said: “This initiative marks another milestone in our government’s drive to uplift citizens from poverty.

“Beyond easing financial hardship, these grants will stimulate local businesses, boost the state’s economy, and increase our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

He advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, noting that responsible management of the grant would ensure lasting benefits for their households and communities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Prince Bayo Ogungbangbe, disclosed that the ministry had empowered over 20,000 Osun residents through various economic intervention programmes since the inception of the Adeleke administration.

“Governor Adeleke’s administration is a government for the grassroots,” Ogungbangbe said. “We are committed to putting smiles on the faces of our people through continuous empowerment initiatives and the provision of social amenities that directly impact their lives.”

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Cooperatives and Empowerment, Hon. Durojaye Isaac, commended the beneficiaries for their patience and encouraged them to invest the grants wisely.

He revealed that a second batch of the cash grant would soon be rolled out, alongside several other initiatives designed to reach more residents across the state.

“We urge our people to continue supporting Governor Adeleke’s administration so that they can enjoy more dividends of democracy,” Durojaye added.

According to the ministry, the empowerment scheme aligns with the government’s vision to build a self-sustaining economy by supporting small businesses, traders, artisans, and vulnerable groups — fostering inclusive growth and reducing poverty across Osun State.
