ADC demands arrest, criminal probe of Nafiu Bala over forged INEC document

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent Electoral National Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest, investigate, and prosecute Nafiu Bala Gombe for allegedly forging electoral documents.
The demand follows a public disclaimer by INEC, which disowned claims made by Bala Gombe that he had obtained the commission’s secure access codes to upload ADC candidates for the 2027 general election.
The electoral body confirmed that the document circulated by Gombe to back his claims was entirely fabricated and forged.
In a statement signed by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Tuesday, the opposition party declared that the incident has escalated far beyond internal party disputes into a serious national security and electoral threat.
“This issue goes beyond partisan politics; it’s about the impunity of corruption that undermines the welfare and future of ordinary Nigerians,” the statement noted.
“To publicly claim that one has gained access to INEC’s restricted nomination platform and exercised powers reserved for duly recognised party officials is a grave matter.”
The ADC warned that letting Gombe’s actions slide without severe legal consequences poses a direct threat to the integrity of public institutions and risks eroding public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The party urged the federal government and INEC to treat the case as a direct institutional challenge, insisting that Gombe and his sponsors must be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others who might want to exploit similar falsehoods to trigger political instability ahead of 2027.
