ADC assures unity of Atiku, Obi, Amaechi ahead of 2027 presidential election

..Party leaders pledge to prioritise national interests over personal ambition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reassured Nigerians that key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, will maintain a united front in their mission to transform the country as the 2027 elections approach, regardless of who clinches the party’s presidential ticket.

The assurance was given by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, during an interview on Monday. She confirmed that consultations are ongoing within the party on whether to zone the presidential ticket or adopt an open primary system.

Wayas explained that the final decision would be shaped by internal negotiations, guided by the National Executive Committee (NEC), ahead of the party’s national convention.

“There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket. There can only be one presidential candidate on the ballot come 2027 from the ADC, and the final decision will ultimately come down to our internal party negotiations and NEC guidelines,” Wayas said, stressing that the party’s central goal is to rescue Nigeria from its present challenges while placing national interest above personal ambition.

She underlined that the pact binding Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi goes beyond personal considerations and is firmly rooted in a collective pledge to rebuild the nation.

“The pact to save and transform Nigeria is what has brought the leaders you have mentioned together, and it will keep them together,” Wayas noted, pointing to the party’s determination to foster cohesion within its top ranks.

In addition, she revealed that the ADC is setting up a policy committee to draft a comprehensive governance blueprint.

According to her, the committee’s task includes designing measurable first-100-days commitments on critical issues such as economic recovery, electoral reform, and national security, with the aim of offering Nigerians a clear roadmap for governance should the party secure victory in 2027.
