Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for deeper economic collaboration with Oyo State to boost food production and strengthen security across the two neighbouring states.

Abiodun made this known after a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Speaking with reporters, Abiodun noted that Ogun and Oyo share long-standing cultural, historical, and economic connections, making cooperation essential for the collective prosperity of their people.

“I have come to see my brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, to discuss matters of mutual interest. Ogun State was part of the old Western Region where Ibadan served as the capital. We have deep-rooted cultural and economic ties with the people and government of Oyo State,” he said.

“Every day, our subregion continues to attract major investors. Given the proximity of both states on many fronts, this meeting provided an opportunity to explore how we can consolidate our economic relations in agriculture as we work towards food security and sovereignty. Our discussions focused on ensuring we eat what we grow and grow what we eat, turning our region into the breadbasket of the nation.”

Abiodun commended the progress of Oyo State’s agricultural initiatives and pointed to Ogun’s own efforts, particularly in the Odeda, Imeko, and Yewa North areas that border Oyo.

He also underlined the importance of security as a driver of socio-economic growth, acknowledging the contributions of the Southwest Security Network, AMOTEKUN, in supplying vital intelligence and supporting the region’s safety framework.
