26 plants generate 2,833GWh of electricity in April 2024 — NERC

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, about 26 electricity generation plants across the country generated a total of 2,833 gigawatts hour, GWh, of electricity in the month of April 2024, a 8.15 percent decline from 3,083GWh generated in March 2024.

According to NERC, these 26 grid-connected power plants recorded only 34 percent availability factor in the month under review, even when they have an installed capacity of generating 12,199MW.

Data released by NERC on the operational performance of power plants indicated that the largest power producers which include plants generated 2,374GWh, which represents 83.7 percent of the energy generated in April 2024.

Afam IV -V, Sapele ST, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele GT NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP, Geregu NIPP, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Ibom Power, River NIPP, Omoku, Trans Amadi, Paras, Taopex Energy, Mepp and Dadin Kowa generated a total of 480GWh being 16.9 percent of energy generated during the period.

Egbin ST and Delta GS plants generated the highest power of 403GWh and 300GWh, while Kainji trailed behind with 247GWh in April 2024, while Ihovbor NIPP and Omotosho NIPP generated 00GWh of electricity, from their installed capacity of 450MW and 500MW respectively.

Meanwhile, the initial Stakeholder Advisory Panel, iSAP, for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, has wrapped up and submitted a report of its activities to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

Recall that iSAP was set up in 2021 in synergy with the operational market rules with the responsibility to recommend to NERC changes in the market rules, grid codes, and other recommendations for the financial viability of the NESI.

iSAP Chairman and Managing Director of Mainstream Energy Commission Limited, Engr Lamu Audu, disclosed the winding up of the panel when he led members of the panel to NERC head office in Abuja.

Audu also submitted the report to the NERC Chairman, Sanusi Garba on behalf of the panel.

Meanwhile, both iSAP and NERC are yet to make public the content of the report.
