2027: We will support consensus arrangement — Stakeholders

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the three senatorial districts of Kwara State have expressed their readiness to support and abide by any consensus arrangement adopted by the party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders made this known on Thursday in Ilorin during a media chat, where top party chieftains reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership at both the state and national levels.

The Chairman and Secretary of the Amalgamated APC Elders and Stakeholders Forum, Prof. Khalid Dasuki and Amb. Julius Balogun, stated that the group would respect the decisions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

They noted that the party leadership has demonstrated commendable foresight in states such as Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos by promoting consensus arrangements aimed at strengthening internal unity and cohesion.

“We are proud of the proactive leadership being demonstrated by the President and the party in neighboring states. We trust in the judgment and wisdom of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safely, seamlessly, and smartly navigate the affairs of our great party in Kwara State as well,” they said.

The group recalled that the intervention of President Tinubu was instrumental in stabilizing the APC in Kwara ahead of the 2019 elections, which led to the emergence of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the success of the Otoge political movement.

They credited the President’s superior leadership for the strategic decisions that produced the current administration and its subsequent milestones.
Furthermore, the stakeholders urged the party leadership to settle for a candidate who is popular, broadly acceptable, credible, and competent. Such a candidate, they argued, must be capable of confronting the growing influence of the opposition in the state.

“With the Otoge revolution of 2019, Kwara State was liberated from the shackles of godfatherism, misgovernance, and underdevelopment. The state cannot afford to go back to Egypt. We jointly express our resolve to abide by the party’s consensus arrangement in Kwara, just as has been done successfully elsewhere,” they stated.

The leaders concluded by affirming that stakeholders across the state are prepared to mobilize thousands of APC members in support of the party’s eventual decision, ensuring that the APC retains power in Kwara beyond 2027.
