2027: Makinde declares Presidential bid on APM platform

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Making the announcement at a rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan on Thursday, Makinde revealed a political realignment following the recent factionalisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Makinde urged opposition members to unite, affirming that a grand alliance between the PDP and APM would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

He argued that Nigeria’s current political landscape no longer guarantees a level playing field without interference from the ruling party.

He described the handshake between the two parties as a necessary step to rescue the nation, promising to field candidates from the presidency down to the state assemblies.

However, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, quickly dismissed the claims of a legitimate alliance.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike described the arrangement as fraudulent and claimed that Makinde’s presidential ambition was essentially dead on arrival.

Wike insisted that no such political arrangement exists and noted that the PDP would present its own candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He suggested that Makinde’s move to the APM was a personal attempt to salvage an ambition that lacks broader party support.
