2027: Aiyedatiwa backs TLG group's mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election

...Urges group to promote APC to increase party membership at grassroots
Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged unwavering support from the state government and people of Ondo for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
He made this known on Friday while receiving the state, local government, and ward coordinators of a political support group, The Lucky Guy (TLG), during a courtesy visit in Akure. The group is actively mobilising grassroots backing for President Tinubu’s second term under the campaign banner AsiwajuDatiwa.
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended President Tinubu for boosting states’ fiscal capacity, which has enabled governors to implement developmental projects without resorting to borrowing.
“Thanks to the President’s economic reforms, state revenues have increased, making it easier to embark on more developmental projects for our people. We no longer need to take loans to execute projects or pay salaries,” he said.
He noted that under the Renewed Hope agenda, Ondo State had received significant federal backing, including infrastructural developments and key appointments.
“We are pleased with the increase in federal presence in Ondo since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office. The level of support our state has received from the federal government in the past two years is truly unprecedented,” he stated.
Aiyedatiwa pointed to ongoing projects and initiatives such as the dualisation of the Ore-Ondo-Akure Road, the establishment of the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway passing through Ondo, and the allocation of an aviation institution to the state. He also acknowledged various political appointments offered to sons and daughters of Ondo.
“With these achievements and more, we have every reason to rally behind Mr President’s re-election in 2027. Remember, in 2023, Ondo State gave him one of the highest vote percentages nationwide at 69 per cent. We are poised to do even better in the next election,” the Governor added.
He praised The Lucky Guy for their creativity, commitment, and intellectual input in the political process, encouraging members to remain honest, loyal, and community-focused.
“I am impressed by your passion and intellect. This is not just about supporting a candidate, but about pushing for a better Ondo State. I urge you to approach your work with integrity and loyalty,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The Governor expressed confidence in the group’s capacity to support good governance through public engagement, advocacy, and strategic mobilisation. He encouraged the members to recruit more people into the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially from the grassroots, in preparation for the next general elections.
Earlier, the Convener of TLG, Hon. MoyinOlorun Ogunwumiju, explained that the group was formed to promote Governor Aiyedatiwa’s political vision and leadership.
“We are ready to serve as your foot soldiers across the 18 local government areas. We are eager for greater responsibility in advancing the Asiwaju Datiwa 2027 agenda,” Ogunwumiju said.
The group’s Director General of Mobilisation, Hon. Muritala Suleiman, added that TLG was inspired by Aiyedatiwa’s political ideals and was designed to create a space for politically active youth who lacked platforms to contribute meaningfully.
He recalled the group’s role in the previous gubernatorial election, where members organised door-to-door campaigns and promoted the Governor’s candidacy with posters, billboards, and other campaign materials across the state.
Suleiman congratulated Aiyedatiwa on his recent victory at the election tribunal and on marking 100 days in office. He also appealed to the Governor to include more youth in future political appointments.
Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, and the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, among other dignitaries.
