Yuletide: Ogun Police intensify joint patrols across highways, flashpoints

The Ogun State Police Command has stepped up security operations across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, deploying joint patrol teams, operational assets and a large number of personnel to secure highways, flashpoints and other strategic locations.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

The statement reads partly: “The Ogun State Police Command has intensified proactive security measures across the state to ensure a peaceful Christmas and festive season, deploying joint forces, operational assets, and a massive number of personnel, while strengthening patrols along major highways and strategic locations to safeguard lives and property.

“In furtherance of this objective, the Command conducted a robust joint show of force in collaboration with the Lagos and Oyo State Police Commands, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other sister security agencies, particularly along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

“This coordinated operation involved the deployment of patrol vehicles, tactical teams, and intelligence assets to reinforce security presence, reassure the public, and deter criminal activities.

“Special attention is being given to strategic routes, notably the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Road, where coordinated joint operations with sister agencies are ongoing to ensure the safe movement of people, goods, and travellers before, during, and after the Yuletide celebrations, while sustaining law and order across the state.”

Beyond the joint show of force, the police command said the Commissioner of Police had ordered a massive deployment of personnel for traffic control, visibility patrols and operational duties during and after the festive period.

According to the statement, the strategy is designed to ensure effective coverage of crime-prone areas, manage traffic flow, respond promptly to distress calls and maintain public order across both urban and rural communities.

The command also assured residents that sustained collaboration with other security agencies in the state would continue throughout the Yuletide period to strengthen intelligence gathering and guarantee rapid response to security threats.

The police reaffirmed that the use of fireworks and knockouts remains prohibited in the state in the interest of public safety, warning that violators would be sanctioned in accordance with the law.

Residents were urged to celebrate responsibly, cooperate with officers on duty and report any suspicious movements or security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, and other emergency numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.

The Ogun State Police Command assured the public that the intensified patrols and joint operations would be sustained throughout and beyond the festive season to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
